Cartridges can be installed one at a time, so need to change over complete set.
Use alongside original cartridges, so no wastage of existing ink.

When refilling, simply remove the refill cartridge and refill with ink. Then replace the
chip here and re install the cartridge. The printer will will now read the cartridge as full.
